Here’s another video taken back in April with the GoPro strapped on my head, but this time facing behind me. I think it works well to capture someone windsurfing from their front, but you have to get them to sail really close. That’s Bruno windsurfing behind me on his Exocet Wave board. The wide-angle lens on the camera makes it seem further away, but he’s actually right behind me almost touching my board. Next time I’ll adjust the angle up a bit as there is a bit too much water and not enough sky. The colour of the water really is that turquoise here in Cayman, which makes it a great place to windsurf!
South Sound Kona Session
On Saturday the SE wind didn’t deliver quite what was forecast, but I took out the Kona 11’5 out in South Sound and found out what it was designed for. I sailed out on my 7m to the island with Charles in SUP mode. It wasn’t planable but it’s amazing how well the board glides. Once out there we had some great waves and I was amazed how well the board turns. The wind picked up a little and I managed to get planing a few times which made it even better to get onto the right waves. Looks like this is going to be the way to go for the windless summer ahead.
SE forecast
Well there hasn’t been much wind in a while now and I could definitely do with some. The guru is showing a nice SE wind coming up this Saturday and Sunday, so we may check out South Sound if the forecast holds. Hold thumbs!!!
I’ve scanned some old windsurfing photos provided by Bill and you can see them here. I’m also debating whether to switch to using Blogger for updates as it is easier to embed multiple photos in a post than in Drupal. I’ve added the link at the top and the URL is https://www.caymanwindsurfing.com/blog/
First attempt with the GoPro helmet camera
Embedding is not working for IE7, so you’ll have to visit the link to see it.
2009 Cabo Verde PWA World Cup
The 2009 Cabo Verde PWA Wold Cup wave-sailing competition is underway at the moment and into day 4. The competition was on standby, but luckily conditions improved enough for it to continue. Check out more information at the official website and the PWA live event ticker.
Waiting for my new kit to arrive and some more wind here in Cayman. The long range weekend forecast is looking good at the moment fingers crossed!
